Enthusiasm on the Golf Course

Here’s what you missed at the 2019 Golf Outing

To say Thursday, June 27th was the perfect day for the golf outing is an understatement.

The day started, for most, at 9 am with registration, fun goody bags, and golf cart decorating. The morning was getting more patriotic with every member who arrived in red, white, and blue. After members registered, they indulged in delectable breakfast tacos and tater tots with flavor you wouldn’t believe, at the Ziffles Zip n Go. Golf carts then took off to their perspective holes, decked out with flags blowing wild in the summer breeze.

The scramble began with a bang. At 10, the shotgun (in fact a blow horn) went off and 18 teams began golfing at 18 holes. Not a cloud was in sight in the radiant blue sky. All day long, employees, who normally remain indoors, embraced the shining sun, after weeks of rain. People who might have never spoken before connected on the bright Canterbury Green Golf Course.

The tang of barbeque sauce was in the air from 11:30-1:00 as carts made pit stops at the Ziffles Zip n Go to feast on chips, chicken sandwiches, and pulled pork sandwiches. All golfers and sponsors remained hydrated throughout the day with plenty of cold water and refreshing lemonade to go around.

A quick drive around the course and you would have seen sponsor holes with all sorts of creative decorations – from a makeshift photo booth to large dice you could roll and win prizes with. You would also catch the glowing smiles on the faces of every member present. You might have even been able to spot Beth, Executive Director of the Apartment Association, donning some glittery, patriotic fairy wings.

In the end, we had a wide array of golf skills present, so awards were given out for 1st, 6th, 9th, and last place. Ultimately, the last place team received the most prizes because, with door prizes, chance determines whether or not you could win a flat screen TV. Dozens of members expressed their satisfaction, with the organization of the event, to the AAFW-NEI staff. We couldn’t be happier that everyone had a blast and are truly grateful to all the sponsors and committee members who made this event possible! We are overjoyed about the turnout and eager for what the future brings!
