EPA Renovation, Repair, & Painting Training - Initial 8 Hour Certification
Homes and other buildings built before 1978 are likely to contain lead-based paint. Renovation, repair, or painting work done in those facilities could release hazardous lead dust which can be harmful to you and your residents. EPA’s Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule provides important protections for you and your facility, and also requires that you take certain actions to protect your residents and your business.
The RRP rule requires every contractor and all maintenance personnel working in pre-1978 properties to complete an 8-hour EPA course on lead safety for renovation, repair and painting followed by a 4-hour refresher course every three to five years depending on their type. This ruling includes residential homes, apartment buildings, and in some cases, commercial buildings. While this rule benefits all involved and helps keep our children safe from the dangers of lead-based paint, it is a costly requirement with penalties of up to $37,500 per day per job for non-compliance.
