How to Get a Stronger Wi-Fi Connection in Your Apartment

There is nothing worse than when Netflix has trouble streaming your favorite show, your internet cuts out while you're taking an online exam, or you can't scroll through Facebook during your downtime at home! Sometimes, your Wi-Fi connection in your apartment can be pretty suspect. Check out these tips to make your Wi-Fi connection stronger in your apartment home!

• Find the best place for your router- The ideal spot for this is on a higher shelf or table in the center of your apartment, so the router has the ability to reach the whole area of your space. 
• Don't hide the router- Nobody wants their Wi-Fi router to be the center of attention, so many people feel the need to hide it.  Don't do this--it limits the reach of your router and makes for poor signal strength.  Instead, get creative and incorporate it into your apartment's decor! (Sidenote: make sure to leave at least 3 inches around the router on all sides) 
• Keep your router out of the kitchen- Make sure to keep your Wi-Fi router away from microwaves or other metal appliances (ovens, refrigerators, etc.)  These appliances literally eat the Wi-Fi signal as the router runs, which is a complete waste and huge inconvenience!

• Keep your Wi-Fi signal secure- Putting a password on your Wi-Fi network will definitely help speed up your signal.  The more people using your Wi-Fi network, the slower it will be.  This is also very important for protecting your privacy.  
• Get a new router- This step is only to be completed if the steps above do not help strengthen your Wi-Fi signal.  Older equipment does not work as well as time passes.  Do your research and make sure you choose a router that suits your needs.
