You Can Still Grill When Renting An Apartment

Grills & Other Open-Flame Cooking Devices 

The Fort Wayne Fire Department &Apartment Association of FortWayne - NE Indiana reminds
everyone that The State of Indiana has laws regarding the use and storage of gas and charcoal grills as well as other open end cooking devices, especially in regards to apartments, condominiums,
townhouses, etc .

If the building exterior, deck, balcony or patio is composed of combustible materials, the grill may not be used or stored within 10 feet of the combustible construction.
Indiana Code 308.3.1 Open-flame cooking devices states: Charcoal burners and other open-flame
cooking devices shall not be operated on combustible balconies or within 10 feet (3048 mm) of
combustible construction.
Exceptions:
One- and two-family dwellings.
Where buildings, balconies and decks are protected by an automatic sprinkler system.

shall not be located on combustible balconies or within 10 feet (3048 mm) of combustible construction.
